NASA InSight mission will measure temperature of Martian soil at 16 feet depth

InSight mission was launched on May 5, 2018 and now spacecraft passed more than half the way to Mars. On November 26 it will land to the Martian Elysium Planitia. In case of mission success, this will be the first research of red planet in-depth as all of previous attempts were failed.

InSight carries three instruments on board: HP3 (Heat-Flow and Physical Properties Probe) for in-depth temperature measurements, RISE (Rotation and Interior Structure Experiment) for a precise determination of Mars rotation parameters, and SEIS (Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure) — the most sensitive seismometer ever used in space.
